| The Conference, which was attended by about 140 representatives of higher education institutions, European institutions and bodies, international organisations and pertinent associations, were told about the current state of preparations for the launch of the European Master's envisaged, and discussed core issues of the new programme, such as admission criteria, assessment, and the training of trainers. The Conference was opened by Mr Leonard Orban, Member of the European Commission responsible for Multilingualism, and Mr Karl-Johan Lönnroth, Director-General of DG Translation. Wolfgang Mackiewicz delivered the first speech of the day on Translation as a strategy for multilingualism. |
