CEL/ELC President speaks at 2009 China-EU Multilingualism Conference
At the invitation of European Commission, Wolfgang Mackiewicz attended the 2009 China-EU Multilingualism Conference held in Beijing on 30-31 March. He delivered the EU keynote speech.

In his speech, Wolfgang described the development of the Community’s language policy since the days of the Treaties of Rome.

At the invitation of its director, Professor Wang Lidi, Wolfgang and other members of the EU delegation visited the Graduate School of Translation and Interpretation at Beijing Foreign Studies University, where they had the opportunity to observe a simulation conference.

At the suggestion of Director Wang, Wolfgang delivered an impromptu presentation on translation and interpretation in the European institutions and on new developments in the training of translators and interpreters in Europe.

The EU delegation was led by Mr Leonard Orban, member of the European Commission responsible for multilingualism.
