Honourary membership was conferred on Sylvia Vlaeminck, former head of the Language Policy Unit at the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Education and Culture, “in recognition of her fundamental contribution to the development of European language policy and to the creation of frameworks designed to encourage European co-operation for the promotion of individual and societal multilingualism”. Noël Muylle, Directeur général honoraire and former director at the European Commission’s DG for Interpretation, was awarded honourary membership “in recognition of his fundamental contribution to the promotion of multilingualism, and his long-standing support of activities undertaken or initiated by the CEL/ELC”. The award documents were presented by CEL/ELC President Wolfgang Mackiewicz in the presence of CEL/ELC Vice president Anne-Claude Berthoud and Piet van de Craen, member of the CEL/ELC Board. Invited guests included Marco Benedetti, Director-General of the DG for Interpretation, Pinuccia Contino, Head of the Multilingualism and Translation Studies Unit at the DG for Translation, and Ludo Teeuwen of Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel.
