Following the Launch Conference held at the Université Charles-de-Gaulle ñ Lille 3 in July 1997, the CEL/ELC organised three major European conferences at two-year intervals: Jyväskylä, FI (1999), Berlin, DE (2001) and Aarhus, DK (2003).

In view of the fact that the CEL/ELC is currently involved in two major network projects, the CEL/ELC Board decided in September 2004 not to organise a self-standing conference in 2005, but to concentrate efforts on the TNP3 Year Two Closing Conference (Copenhagen Business School, 30 September-1 October 2005) and the ENLU Closing Conference (Nancy, 31 March-1 April 2006).
