The CEL/ELC was founded in the wake of the SIGMA pilot project (1994-1995); its history is linked to several major European co-operation and development projects, among them successive Thematic Network projects, DIALANG and ENLU.

| Current projects include two network projects funded under the EU’s Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP): MOLAN (Network for the exchange of information about good practices that serve to motivate language learners) and LanQua (Language Network for Quality Assurance). |
