Aims and objectives
The European Language Council actively promotes European co-operation between institutions of higher education in the area of language studies.

In particular, the ELC seeks to:
  • bring about improved knowledge of the languages and cultures of the European Union and beyond
  • provide a forum for debate and joint policy development for all institutions of higher education as well as for professional and academic organisations with a special interest in language studies
  • initiate, launch and manage European projects in education, training and research designed to meet the cultural, social and professional needs of an integrated Europe
  • represent the interests of its members and engage in dialogue with European institutions as well as with other national and international organisations
  • gather, exchange and disseminate information relevant to the field
  • assess methods of teaching and research in language studies
  • enhance the quality of language learning and language teaching
  • provide a joint and targeted response to the challenges posed by a multilingual and multicultural Europe
